Disney’s annual Picnic!

blog_070609_3.JPG

Barely recovered from our “break” on Sunset, Sarah, Thia and I attended the annual summer picnic from Disney. Great afternoon of fun in a superb location (a park in the mountains at the back of Malibu) with as per usual now, our friends Arnaud & Steph and their 2 monsters, Naomi and Evan.

The afternoon was filled with games, slides, water games, foam games, bouncing games and more games!

Highlight for the daddies: The BBQ (I think that Arnaud had at least 5 huge beef ribs and 3 hot dogs).

Highlight for Thia: Definitely meeting IN PERSON Mickey, Minnie, Donal, Daisy and Pluto!

After all this, I now deserve a long night of rest before taking off to San Francisco tomorrow afternoon, for the Apple WWDC (stay tuned on Monday, I am hopping to post in real time the announcements made by Mr Steve Jobs himself).

Time to give some news!

Well, well, well, now that the pain of redoing this site is almost over, it is definitely time to give some real news…

So what happened in the last month or so? Well, the house is now totally done. Sarah worked her bum off and managed to make this new place under the sun feel like a new home. Thia’s bedroom is done and has finally her name on her door (as well as on the wall, on her board, etc). The guest room is done and is currently occupied by Sarah’s parents who arrived last night from the UK. Our second set of visitors after Elaine came from Australia (via London, please) almost a month ago. My office looks just like our old living room in London and our new living room feels good! So, in a nutshell, we now really have a home.

On the transportation front, I have my little car, already nicknamed the Flint-mobile by Sarah, due to the fact that it feels like driving the Flinstone’s car (apparently) and Sarah can now enjoy not having to drive me to the office every day and pick me up (saving her a couple of hours in traffic every day).

Our friends the dears keep visiting us and Thia seems to really enjoy their company, as well as her inflatable pool in the garden, well, the garden in general! Her languages skills are improving by the day and she now makes 2 to 3 words sentences, mixing both French and English. She is as well now enrolled into pre-school in Burbank (next to my office) and shall start in September.

And last but not least, our community pool (almost at the back of the house) has finally opened and we have already enjoyed the benefit of it a couple of times (first time was last weekend, on Memorial day).

So, life is getting there pretty much. It is still hard and there are great days and bad days, but no one really expected this transition to be easy and if you look at it, I think we’ve done pretty well in only 4 months in the country and 2 months in our new house in Montrose!

So that’s it for a very quick catch up.

I’ll try to add more past news and update this more often, with the help of our new blogging technologies.

A “Langrois” in town!

blog_070426_1.JPG

Far away from most of my old buddies, receiving the visit of a close friend and especially one from my tiny home town (Langres) is simply a blessing!

I hadn’t seen Yves and his family since my last visit to his hotel and restaurant (a pilgrimage every time I go back to my parents) in December, during our “Good Bye Tour ‘06″, so seeing them here, now that things are half settled has been pretty good.

The program was simple but I hope efficient: Dinner at a diner on Hollywood Bld with Sarah and Thia and visit of the Disney Studios and lunch on the lot…Finally time for me to return one of the many favors I was given by these friends!

The day after…

Last night, using various excuses and the fact that several of our former European colleagues were in town for the annual NAB in Las Vegas, we had a little gathering in our new home, also known as housewarming…

After much debating and a late invite sent to most of the people (sorry, it seems I still managed to forget one or 2 persons on the list… I apologize profusely) most of our old and new friends made it to our new home and mainly to our patio.

Many made it and it was great to see some of the old friends on this side of the pond. 3 of the guests (Keith, John and J) were even at both our leaving do in London and our housewarming here in California. Amazing! It was good as well to meet with some new people (some parents from Sarah’s “Mummy and Me” group and some new Disney colleagues and their partners) and to finally have a drink out of the office with some not so new people.

Kudos to both Keith and Simon, who both have the commuting record to join us, coming respectively from London and Hong Kong.

Kudos as well to Arnaud who quickly replaced me at the BBQ position as Sarah and I were running like nutters, trying to see as many people as we could and delivering food, drinks, etc to our guests.

I must admit one thing: I never ever saw so many kids playing together in a garden at a given time. I think we might have reached 20 kids in our backyard, without having one explosion of tears or a crying youngster!

The party was great and did last, as you can expect, well into the night…

One slight issue though: I totally forgot to take any picture of the evening! So all you get is a shot of one of the table on the following morning, around 7:00AM…

You shall receive our updated details soon…
